Meet Elizabeth Ames, Assistant Conductor of the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra.

Elizabeth Ames is a conductor and cellist from Tallassee, AL. Elizabeth has taken cello since the age of four and has studied cello with Katerina Juraskova, Dr. Chen Mei Li, and Dr. Gregory Hamilton. She recently graduated from Concordia College studying cello with Dr. Eduard Teregulov and conducting with Dr. Kevin F. E. Sütterlin. Elizabeth has performed in orchestras and chamber groups at The Masterworks Festival and Philadelphia International Music Festival.
In her undergraduate, Elizabeth has been assistant conductor for both the Concordia Orchestra and Opera. She has won a conducting fellowship at Lutheran Summer Music for both 2022 and 2023 and has also guest conducted the Northern Valley Youth Orchestra. She has worked with conductors such as Alejandro Urrutia, Alex Bodony, Matthias Elmer, and Miriam Burns. Elizabeth will be attending the University of Utah in the fall to study conducting with Dr. Robert Baldwin.
